Capi is the Latin term for ‘captured’. In systemic coaching, one of the goals can be to support clients in freeing themselves from a seemingly hopeless situation or often learned helplessness.  Clients then need help to recognise and overcome the conviction that they have lost the ability to change their own life situation as a result of negative experiences.

Our world is changing at a pace that leaves many people barely able to breathe. Communication is becoming faster and faster, the reaction times accepted from the outside are decreasing and the individual stress limit has often long since been reached. Many people have the feeling that all they can do is ‘function’, like a hamster on a wheel. Nobody should disturb the movement of this wheel, because if it gets out of sync as a result of a change, the ability to solve problems and make decisions is often blocked – regardless of the training and background of those affected.

In systemic coaching, the client is always seen as part of a system, regardless of whether their problem is in a private or professional context. It always involves an interaction in communication and behaviour and takes into account that cause and effect are not a one-dimensional construct. Together with the coach, the client (coachee) develops alternatives to their problem behaviour or their point of view. Short-term coaching is also suitable for some topics, situations or problems. With refreshingly simple questions and interventions, it often leads to a solution to the problem after just one or a few sessions

Coaching is therefore an effective way of optimising motivation and decision-making in order to (re)activate the client’s problem-solving skills. Various questioning techniques, reflections and a wide range of interventions, including some from Gestalt or behavioural therapy, address them on an analogue or digital level and aim to broaden their perspective and consider new possibilities. Recognising deeply rooted beliefs and identifying inner drivers, for example, can lead to unconscious, harmful patterns of behaviour becoming transparent.

The client himself is the expert for his problems and solutions. The coach merely acts as a guide: he helps the client to find the way to the solutions, steers the process and provides food for thought. The client takes responsibility for the content of the solution to their problems.

The coach and client get to know each other in a free and non-binding preliminary meeting lasting about an hour and, after a period of reflection, decide whether they would like to work together. This is where the gut feeling decides whether the chemistry is right.

At the beginning of the coaching process, a coaching contract is concluded, which also contains the client’s desired goals and does not commit to a specific number of hours. The contract can be cancelled at any time by either party free of charge. In the last coaching session, success is evaluated on the basis of these criteria.

The methods of counselling, coaching and training are combined for some topics or build on each other. Depending on individual needs, the approach is tailored to the objectives. For groups, a combination of basic training, subsequent group and individual coaching for practical transfer, the establishment of groups for the exchange of experiences and a joint seminar at the end are often suitable.

In the context of counselling, it is expressly required and desired that the consultant contributes his or her personal experience and knowledge and thus imparts knowledge to the client and shows alternative options for action. In a company context, managers usually lack a sparring partner for a collegial exchange, e.g. in the event of personnel or team conflicts, but also in the case of private challenges. The external management coach and counsellor is then the appropriate contact person in a protected space and can incorporate coaching elements into the process as the situation demands.
